ROOM.
Inspired by the story “The Yellow Wallpaper”, this room is a physical manifestation of the character’s anxieties that she can never escape.
BUILD.
This wallpaper appears ordinary but after a closer look, a pair of eyes stares back at you. Creating this custom wallpaper began with a design created on Illustrator by graphic artist Isabella Hilditch, which was then translated into a file which could be laser cut onto pieces of basswood. After creating the stencils, a small rig was made to help keep the patterned aligned and painted faster. The flasts were then sanded and papered using a combination of newsprint and temporary glue. The newsprint was painted over with a base layer of paint to match the 12’ muslin wall, and then stenciled over. This process was repeated for a total of eight flats and one 12’ by 12’ muslin to create the false wall.
